Faculty: | Computer and Mathematical Sciences |
Field of Study: | Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Statistics, General
|
Description: | Statistics is the study of the collection, organization, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data. The discipline is research-intensive, and includes many interesting aspects such as probability and game theory, statistical modeling and analysis. All of these are applicable to virtually every field.
The Machine Learning and Data Mining stream provides a specialist program in a dynamic, high-demand, and fast-growing field that lies at the intersection of statistics and computational sciences. It is driven by applied problems in science and technology, where data streams are increasingly large-scale, high-dimensional and heterogeneous. This specialist stream is quite unique; we are not aware of a similar program currently offered elsewhere.
Employment prospects for graduates in these fields are excellent, and students interested in co-op are encouraged to consider these streams. Studying Statistics is an excellent choice for students with strong quantitative skills and an interest in applying these skills to solve practical problems. |
